🐝 Spring Markets, Brutus & 112-Second Echoes

March 26th, 2026

Good Afternoon, Waterloo Region!

So for those that clicked through onto the 'upcoming events' site on Monday, thanks so much & appreciate the feedback.

Since I can't reliably get the full list into the email each week, it's now going to live under 'Upcoming Events' in the 'What's Happening' section - this'll actually be a good thing, giving you easy access each time the newsletter's sent.

I'll also put a 'new' badge on anything that was recently added. For example, there's a fun looking comedy/magic walking tour coming up this May in Waterloo!

Make sure to check it out.

In today's email:

  • a TON of events (especially on Saturday)
  • Brutus
  • the longest echo
  • local goat playtimes
  • & more

Let's dive in 👇

ADOPTABLE PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Brutus!

Brutus first came to the shelter earlier this month, and is a 4 year old male that weighs 61lbs. Just look at that smile!

"A handsome boy with a gentle soul who just needs a little time to show his true colours. He can be shy and a bit nervous when meeting new people, but with patience and kindness, his true personality quickly comes through. Once he feels comfortable, Brutus transforms into a fun-loving, affectionate companion who enjoys being close to his people. He loves going for walks and will happily join you on outdoor adventures, and he occasionally enjoys play time as well. Brutus is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can build confidence and share his sweet, loyal heart."

And there are tons of dogs, cats and other animals that are looking for their forever homes. You can find the adopt page here.

* if you adopt a dog or any pet from these emails, reply and let me know! I'd love to send you a special gift to help get things started

RANDOM FACTS OF THE DAY

Vultures are Nature’s "Purifiers": Vultures have stomach acid so powerful that it can safely digest anthrax, botulism, and cholera. This makes them vital to the ecosystem by cleaning up carcasses that would otherwise spread disease.

The Light Lag: When you look at the Sun, you are seeing it as it was 8 minutes and 20 seconds ago. If the Sun were to suddenly vanish, we wouldn't know - or even see the darkness - for nearly nine minutes.

The Longest Echo: The world record for the longest echo in a man-made structure was set inside an underground oil storage tank in Scotland. If you fire a blank pistol inside, the sound reverberates for a staggering 112 seconds.
