GEM OF THE WEEK βThe Artstore of Waterloo | 91 Caroline Street "We are a locally owned and operated art and drafting supply store, which has been in the same location since 1974. Lynn and Andrew Barlow have owned the store since 1987. We carry the very best in fine art and drafting supplies. Our inventory expands and changes constantly, as we work to provide our customers with the tools and knowledge that they need. Our staff is friendly and approachable, and eager to help you find just what you need for your special project. Our customer base is varied β including professional artists, hobbyists, architects, teachers, students and the fellow around the corner. We offer student and senior discounts, and our Bonus Club is amazing. Ask us about it!" I've been a few times over the last month and they're always so helpful with any questions... and have so much in stock so you can find exactly what you need! They've also got a great 'mini-studio' where you can see some awesome pieces from local artists. Paintings, drawings, statues & more... really interesting stuff. You can checkout their location, store hours & contact information here. ADOPTABLE PET OF THE WEEK Meet Nutmeg! A beautiful, black & white domestic shorthair/mix female with an amazing set of eyes! She's been at the shelter since the beginning of December and is 5 years old. "Nutmeg is sweet and affectionate. She loves scratches and brushes from anyone, and will happily tolerate being picked up and held for a while. Her foster family reports that she's not so much of a lap cat or cuddler, but she's social and loves being near the action, often following people around just to be part of the fun. Nutmeg also has a cozy side - in her foster home she enjoys napping in sheltered spots like under beds and loves watching the world go by from a window. Her foster family has found her to be easygoing, super easy to care for, and full of charm." Tap here to find out more. And there are tons of dogs, cats and other animals (there's a lizard called Linguini!!) that are looking for their forever homes. You can find the adopt page here. * if you adopt a dog or any pet from these emails, reply and let me know! I'd love to send you a special gift to help get things started RANDOM FACTS OF THE DAY There is a species of tree that grows almost entirely underground. Discovered recently, Pininga subterranea produces its flowers and fruit beneath the soil rather than in the open air. You are taller in the morning than you are at night. Throughout the day, gravity compresses the cartilage in your spine. While you sleep, your spine "decompresses," and you wake up about 1 cm taller than when you went to bed. Mars is home to a volcano three times the height of Mount Everest. Named Olympus Mons, it is the largest volcano in the solar system and is roughly the size of the state of Arizona. THANK YOU!
